Growth Update

Storage_JM and I ran model after model of netspace growth predictions earlier this year. 2 EIB after a year? 1 EiB after 6 months? 4 EiB after a year?  Steady 6-7% weekly growth?

Time to throw it all out the window. Grab your favorite high TBW SSD, open the command line and fire up a hard drive.  Chia has gone absolutely parabolic. We have long surpassed 800 PiB and approaching 900 PiB that well over doubles last week’s 395 PiB Netspace. Total nodes connected in the last 5 days hovers around 115,000 and the unique address count with XCH will cross 10,000 mid-day tomorrow. We’ll see you on the other side of 1 EiB.

1 week until transactions unlock and holy shit, what a week. 

We will monitor lot of news around the globe closely to gauge just how fast and sustainable these growth numbers are.  Hard Drives manufacturers will see real supply chain limitations with a few more weeks of this growth.  Drives are apparently sold out in China and are already hard to come by from Amazon or the manufacturers direct. I expect this will have a 6-8 week lag in netspace growth. Until then, watch out.

Like I said last week, there’s no real concern (yet) of global hard drive shortage due to the sheer size of the market, but as I watch the slope of this graph increase and with a coin price right around the corner, I might be walking back this statement in 6 months.

Exchanges

No word yet on what exchanges will trade Chia on launch day but we’ll have that information out to everyone as soon as news breaks.

There are 2 IOU exchanges that opened with XCH prices. Both have very low trading volume. Prices are all over the place but this is the first price discovery we’ve seen outside of speculation in the community. 

Exx – https://coinsflare.com/events/cryptocurrency-listed/xch/exx very little volume and liquidity.  The lack of price movement throws up some red flags but had to link to it since its discussed in the community.

Hotbit – https://www.hotbit.pro/exchange?symbol=XCH_USDT Also low trading volume but it actually looks like IOU trades are happening.  I have no idea how, why or who is behind the trading here but it is interesting to watching from the sidelines.

Zoom Q&A with Bram Cohen

JM and I hosted an AMA on zoom last night.  Bram Cohen stopped by to field lots of questions from the community. We covered everything from the growing Netspace, the hard drive market, the state of pooling, transactions and little on ChiaLisp. Check it out if you haven’t had a chance to watch it yet. We really liked this format and will probably keep this up in place of the Sunday Clubhouse session.

New Design

You may have noticed some incredible new art, layouts, and pictures popping up on the site. The wildly talented Seth Jenks has been kicking ass helping us get this website up to something we are very proud of. Our good friend Mikl Barton is helping us ensure the website doesn’t crash all over itself on May 3rd so shout out to Mikl too.
