Not Synced? Don’t Panic: Grab The 1.1.5 Update

At May 9, 2021 around 14:00 UTC, the Chia network experienced a momentary hiccup in the blockchain around block height 255518. The issue has since been resolved, with the network up and moving again, and a 1.1.5 update is now released which all users should download immediately in order to remain in sync. Release notes describing the full issue below:

We were not checking for negative values in the uint64 constructor. Therefore coins with negative values were added to the mempool. These blocks passed validation, but they did not get added into the blockchain due to negative values not serializing in uint64. Farmers making these blocks would make blocks that did not make it into or advance the chain, so the blockchain slowed down starting at block 255518 around 6:35AM PDT 5/9/2021. The fix adds a check in the mempool and block validation, and does not disconnect peers who send these invalid blocks (any peer 1.1.4 or older), making this update not mandatory but is recommended. Users not updating might see their blocks get rejected from other peers. Upgraded nodes will show an error when they encounter an old node trying to send an invalid block. This “Consensus error 124…” can be safely ignored.

The network error began from unexpected negative integers making it into transactions to be validated, which resulted in invalid transactions and blocks that were not accepted onto the chain, slowing down the chain and causing the hiccup. The developers were able to move swiftly to nip the bug, resolving the integer error for the hotfix.

For a complex network undergoing as much exponential growth and load strain as the Chia network, it has been remarkably robust, not to mention the amount of evolution and change it’s seen. Lest we forget, we’re less than a week since the launch of Chia transactions, with the pooling reference software deep in the works right now. These kinds of minor hiccups are normal, and frankly expected, when it comes to nascent blockchains projects with a scope and scale like Chia. Overall, our message is: let’s all take a breath, and carry on farming.

  1. Whats the best way to update without loosing running plots? Is it possible to suspend plots started with plotman, update and then resume again with plotman?

  2. Hi guys,
I still have issues with my wallet not syncing with the update 1.1.5. Port forwarding is activated, everything else is working (Node synced etc.). Do you know about this issue? How can I resolve it?
    Thank you

  3. 1.1.5 does not work at all for me. Just a spinning wheel. I haven’t seen anything but a spinning wheel for 48 hours. Tried lots of different things, as per advice, but this is broken, imo.

  4. Yessss, it is BROKEN… I have 4 machines, running full nodes, all are NOT syncing. Are all stopped at 276535block. Heeeeeeeeeeeeelllpppppp! (15.05.2021)

  5. Best way to save plots during shutdown of ‘gui’ is to NEVER use gui to make plots

Use the cmd-line to make plots, that way it has NOTHING to do with the blockchain

    Use linux, never use windows
That’s about it, another thing is hold-back on 1.1.3 I call ’13’ for plots as post 14 the plotter seems to burn up NVME’s in about two weeks and will kill a hdd or sdd in a day

The big problem with ‘plotting’ is there is no tracking of over-heating on the nvme/ssd/hdd when plotting so the plotter (miner) just keep burning up the drive until the plot hangs, and only message ever seen is ‘mis-match’, but not seen until full 108gb has been processed 6-24 hr, so you have wasted lots of time. There is only one check and that is at the end of process.

DEV seems to have wanted to make stuff ‘fast’, but if it burns up drives and it wastes time/resources its not fast, you don’t make something fast, until you have made it work.

    At this point when plotting

1.) hold back on older solid version, before they made it ‘fast’, as all plots are the same you don’t need latest broken software to make plots
2.) seems that it is better not to have blockchain (npm run electron) even running on plotting machine
3.) expect to have your nvme’s fry every 10-20 days, holds lots of these $200 USD puppys on stock

It’s not good, but one has to do what works.

This is going to be a long and painful process, not unlike the birth of ‘bit-torrent’ took years to get it right.

  6. 1.1.5 is rubbish, Not synching at all. Who designed this software. I’ve spent lots of money for nothing i suppose. Not going to get any Chia at this rate. Please fix the issue.

  7. Hello,
CHIA didn’t come to my wallet

    I didn’t mine anything – I didn’t reset anything
I sent CHIA from the stock exchange to my address
    xch13m54yrmrd7l770pppftq4y989kqa73k9f7ya4ev5mdqcjagzrk0qztdyks
    (I didn’t find a mistake in that)

Is it possible that CHIA disappeared because the wallet is out of sync?

    Where’s my CHIA?
    Will I get her again?

I worked hard on it: /

  8. I update to 1.1.5 and continue to have the problem. It work for a few days and stop farming. Now start to sync and stop, whith the mensage: Not synced.
